CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College football team officially
opened the 2009 season on Monday, August 10 on Shea Field at the BC
campus. With the offense wearing its usual white, defense in maroon and
the quarterbacks in green, the Eagles began gearing up for their season
opener against Northeastern on September 5.
The exceedingly warm and humid weather did nothing to diminish
the Eagles' spirits as the players separated into individual groups for
the start of practice. Quarterbacks took turns tossing swing passes to
running backs out of the backfield, linemen burst from their stance to
set up lead blocks and kickers aimed for the goal posts off of 30-yard
field goal attempts.
BC fans will be happy to know that senior wide receiver, Clarence Megwa,
was back in action today after being forced out of the remainder of
last season due to a broken leg suffered in the home game against
Clemson. From the sidelines, No. 11 could be seen making quick cuts off
the line and accelerating to full speed within seconds.
With all of the new freshmen coming out to practice with the
Eagles for the first time, it was still impossible to miss 25-year old
freshman quarterback, David Shinskie. Despite having not worn a helmet or thrown a pass in nearly six years, Shinskie looked right at home alongside Codi Boek and Justin Tuggle, taking snaps and calling signals to his skill players from under center.
The Eagles will continue to practice for the
remainder of the week and take part in an intra-squad scrimmage
Saturday night (closed to the public).
