Herzlich Back On Boston College Campus; Attends Sunday Practice
Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich has returned to campus and attended the Eagles' practice Sunday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.
Herzlich disclosed earlier this year that he is suffering from Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare cancer, and has been undergoing treatment in Philadelphia. Herzlich returned to The Heights this weekend and moved back to his dorm room. He plans to return to the classroom when classes begin on September 8 and will participate in team meetings and some strength and conditioning workouts.
Herzlich, who will be sidelined for the entire 2009 season, will resume his cancer treatment at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Boston College Offense Scores Three Times In Final Scrimmage
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College football team completed its fourth and final intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium and the offense reached the end zone three times in the hour and a half session.
"There is improvement," Head Coach Frank Spaziani said. "Obviously, we have to make some (quarterback) decision. I think Dave (Shinskie) is in the mix but obviously if he can't practice for a week, he's out of the picture. (Justin) Tuggle has made a lot of strides. He wants to do it and he made some progress."
Tuggle went 6-for-9 in the first half of the scrimmage for 104 yards and a touchdown. The redshirt freshman led the offense to the end zone in the first series of the day, going 3-for-5 for 68 yards. He connected with senior Rich Gunnell for a 41-yard scoring strike that he fit perfectly between the corner and the safety.
Gunnell finished the day with three catches for 77 yards - a 25.67 average - and that touchdown.

Q&A With Boston College Football's senior WR Justin Jarvis
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With the second day of double sessions upon the Boston College football team, bceagles.com caught up with senior WR Justin Jarvis to see how camp is progressing entering the second week.
bceagles.com: How has camp been so far?
"Camp has been pretty good. We're working really hard to develop the identity of our offense and that just comes with a lot of practice, developing our plays and knowing how to execute at a high pace."
bceagles.com: How do the wide receivers look?
"We look pretty good. We had a little down period in the beginning but we elected Rich Gunnell as one of our captains and he's been a great leader along with the other seniors, Clarence Megwa and I. The wide receivers are picking up the pace out there and hopefully the rest of the team is going to follow."
bceagles.com: How does it feel having an increased role as a senior on the team?
"It's a little different for me. I didn't expect the three years to go by as fast as they have and I just have to lead by example and do all the right things."
bceagles.com: Are there any young players that you have taken under your wing during camp?
Boston College Eagles Complete First Intrasquad football Scrimmage
The defense forced four turnovers, including three interceptions and a fumble, as the Boston College football team completed its first intrasquad scrimmage of the fall practice season Saturday evening in Alumni Stadium.
"We got some turnovers, and that was positive," Head Coach Frank Spaziani said. "I thought some guys demonstrated some toughness, but we've got a long way to go. We've got to be more precise on both sides of the ball."
Four quarterbacks vying for the starting job - freshman Dave Shinskie, junior Codi Boek, redshirt freshman Justin Tuggle and freshman Michael Marscovetra - took turns leading the offense, but Spaziani said no starter has emerged at this point. Shinskie completed three-of-eight passes for 22 yards with an interception. Boek went four-for-six for 15 yards, Tuggle was two-for-six for nine yards with an interception, and Marscovetra was five-for-six for 45 yards with an interception.
Boston College Eagles Move To Alumni For Day Three
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - With the sky overhead growing increasingly darker as the day went on, the football team headed out to practice within the confines of their home stadium for the first time this preseason. The Eagles also strapped on their shoulder pads for the first time and quickly began hitting drills at the start of practice.
Frank Spaziani
Head coach Frank Spaziani entered the stadium with a positive attitude and joked with his offensive linemen that they "looked bigger with pads on." Keeping with his light mood before practice got underway, he asked the awaiting press, "You want an update?" After they responded "Yes," he laughed and said, "The Yankees are up 2-1 in the fifth."

opened the 2009 season on Monday, August 10 on Shea Field at the BC
campus. With the offense wearing its usual white, defense in maroon and
the quarterbacks in green, the Eagles began gearing up for their season
opener against Northeastern on September 5.
The exceedingly warm and humid weather did nothing to diminish
the Eagles' spirits as the players separated into individual groups for
the start of practice. Quarterbacks took turns tossing swing passes to
running backs out of the backfield, linemen burst from their stance to
set up lead blocks and kickers aimed for the goal posts off of 30-yard
field goal attempts.
